History

In September of 1987, the following directive was issued by the Oral Roberts Ministries and the City of Faith Medical and Research Center that all physician employee contracts would terminate on March 1, 1988, and those physicians wishing to remain a part of the hospital and medical school would be required to establish themselves in private practice. The majority of the physicians in the Department of Family Medicine elected to remain together and formed a corporation for group practice. This decision grew from a uniform desire on the part of the physicians to remain in academic medicine and in a residency program and hospital that promotes and encourages the practice of medicine for the whole person.

In September of 1989, the surprise announcement came that Oral Roberts University would be closing the School of Medicine and the City of Faith Medical and Research Center. The Family Medical Care of Tulsa physicians remained committed to academic medicine and the practice of medicine for the whole person and set about to preserve and retain the residency program.

Hillcrest Medical Center agreed to help support the residency program, and in October 1989, Family Medical Care physicians began admitting their patients to Hillcrest Medical Center.

Family Medical Care of Tulsa continues its commitment to an academic program and to the practice of whole-person medicine.

Always consult a physician or healthcare provider for treatment and guidance toward good health.
